Before you dive into your search for apartment properties to acquire, here is a list of different types of apartment buildings and a brief description of each of them. Which one do you like the most?

Walk-up apartments. A low-rise apartment building. These are usually simple and may or may not have a patio.

Multifamily. The apartment buildings most of us are more familiar with. These have five or more units, each having its external entrance.

Apartment complex. This is a community of apartment buildings owned by a single entity. They might have community amenities shared by their residents, such as a pool and recreational areas.

Townhomes. Townhomes look more like average suburban houses. They are a series of attached single-family dwellings that can be set up for rental or ownership.

Low-rise. The type of apartments are up to only four floors and will usually have an elevator and stairs.

Mid-rise. These buildings do have an elevator considering they are from five to eleven floors. Oftentimes, they have rooftop access.

High-rise. More common in the downtown area of bigger cities, high-rises are buildings with twelve or more floors and may feature multiple elevators.

Lofts. These are usually luxurious apartments with high ceilings, with open floor plans and sometimes a second level within the unit where the bedroom or bedrooms are located. These can also be made from repurposed commercial buildings, such as warehouses.

Mixed-use. An apartment building with commercial space on the lower floors. These are also very common in downtown areas of both towns and cities.
